The Monroe County Environmental Education Center is part of the Monroe County Conservation District. We offer two types of internships at the District. Each position offers in-depth hands-on training in the Environmental Education and/or Technical programs administered through the Conservation District. A stipend of $100.00 per week is available for internships of 10 or more credits.
Environmental Education Internship - This internship provides the student with a well- rounded experience in environmental education. Interns will become familiar with all aspects of the Environmental Education Center including; programming, scheduling, public relations, administration and more. The Center does a wide variety of environmental education programs for people of all ages from pre-school through adults. These programs are done at the Environmental Education Center, as well as in schools and other outdoor environmental education sites focusing on the Pocono's natural history and environment.
The intern will assist in the programs, and after training will conduct programs for a wide range of groups. They will also be involved with program planning, writing press releases, publishing the Environmental Education Center's newsletter, trail maintenance, display construction, etc. Upon completion of the Internship the student should have a good understanding of the operation of an Environmental Education Center.
Environmental Education Internships are available year-round.

Volunteers are an essential component of the Environmental Education Center’s operation and a variety of volunteer opportunities exist.
- Saturday volunteers operate the Center’s Gift Shop.
- Volunteers assist with fund raising events.
- Field Trip volunteers assist with elementary school classes at Kettle Creek.
- Service organizations help with outdoor projects.
- Volunteers with artistic talents design educational displays and bulletin boards.
- Special talents, from carpentry to graphic design, have been generously volunteered.
- By far our most used volunteer is the general volunteer, affectionately called the “gopher”, who arrives and does whatever is needed from copying to weeding.
Anyone interested in volunteering may contact Jamie Werner at the Center for more information or click below to print/mail our Volunteer Form.
We are organizing a volunteer team to respond to local litter problems including illegal dumping. Volunteers are expected to keep an eye on local roadways and report visible problems as they occur. If possible, personal identification found in litter or dumping should be called into the office for follow-up. The offender will get letter from the office, detailing the complaint and the litter laws.
Supplies (bags, signs, gloves, safety equipment) will be available through the Litter Control Office. Any found or filled litter bags will be picked up by Litter Control staff.
If there is a great deal of trash or furniture, we will need the cooperation of local volunteers and municipal officials to pick up and dispose of the items.
We need YOUR help to keep our communities clean.
