While the type and size of farming operations have changed over the years, agriculture is still an important part of the Monroe County economy. Many families have actively farmed the soils of this county for over 100 years. At the same time young families have returned to the farm to raise crops of corn and soybeans, as well as, cattle, sheep, goats and poultry. Many have joined in the growing of fruits and vegetables to meet the ever expanding demand for farm fresh and locally grown produce.
